A new Aged Care Act is being introduced. It will change how aged care services are delivered to older people in their homes, community settings and residential care homes, and ensure that older Australians get the care and dignity they deserve.

The Australian Government is now asking for feedback on the draft of the new Aged Care Act.

Your feedback on the ideas in the draft law will help create an aged care system you want.

The consultation closes at 7:00 pm AEDT on Friday 8 March 2024.

The new Aged Care Act will include a Statement of Rights to help ensure the needs of older people are at the centre of the new aged care system. It will outline what you should expect when accessing Government-funded aged care services.

The new Act is being drafted and consulted on in stages. This draft law was developed after extensive public consultation on the foundations of the new Aged Care Act last year.

To get involved, read the:

  • full consultation paper
  • plain English consultation paper summary or
